How To Help Your Cavachon Puppy Settle Quickly And Gently

By Lena Stephenson

The first few days any dog spends in a new home can be difficult for both the person and the dog. If you have made the decision to open your home to a Cavachon puppy, you may want to consider the following tips and suggestions. These can help your new family member settle in and start your relationship off as positively as possible.

The Cavachon is actually a mixture of two different breeds: the Bichon Frise and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Both of these breeds are on the small size but the parents can range in size. Because of this it can be hard to determine just how big a dog will get when it is full grown. These pups also come in a range of colors as well.

Although it can be tempting to break the bank on items for your new pup, the fact is that you do not need a massive number of items. You should think about a pen or a crate to keep your new pup contained. If you have to go out or you want to work on house training, a crate can be very helpful. Other items include bowls for food and for water. Look for ones that are easy to clean. Also think about some toys. These can be fun to play with and also help your new pooch exercise his or her jaws.

One thing to remember is that becoming part of a new family can be very stressful for any dog. This can lead to bad or destructive behavior. There are pheromone products and other items that are designed to relax a dog and help it feel less stressed. Your puppy may settle in more easily if you have one or more of these products on hand before you bring them home.

It can be a good idea to check your home over before you bring your new canine into it. You can look for small or dangerous items that the pup may chew on or accidentally swallow. Some types of food can be toxic for dogs and if the item is hard, a dog could accidentally choke on it. You may be surprised what you can find if you get down on a puppy's level and see what you can find.

Part of getting a pup accustomed to living in your home is house training. Small dogs have small bladders and young dogs may have a hard time going for long periods of time between bathroom trips. You should be prepared to take your new pooch out at regular intervals throughout the day. Some pups may have accidents at night as well. Pee pads have absorbent fronts and waterproof backings. These can be helpful when training any pooch.

Although many people do not realize this, dogs that are fearful are usually the most aggressive. If you want to make sure that your dog has a lower chance of being aggressive, introducing it to different people and places is important. Just remember to be patient and your dog will quickly learn that it does not need to fear the different things that it is introduced to.

Any dog has a lot of love to give its owner. By learning how to start your partnership with your canine off on the right foot, you can settle your new pup in and begin to enjoy its company quickly and easily.
