Frontline Plus Kills Ticks And Fleas

By Ray Hauser

Not too long ago, a neighbor's dog wandered over to the house infested with fleas and ticks. This little dog was literally covered in vermin from head to tail. I didn't want to interfere with somebody else's pet, but I felt I had to do something for the little guy. His owners weren't bad people, but they also weren't particularly attentive to their pet's needs or anything else for that matter. They were basically the neighborhood hillbillies. We decided to spray some flea and tick killer on him which killed a lot of the crawling pests, but probably not all of them. I don't recall the specific brand of spray that was used, but it did a pretty good job despite the dog's hostile reaction.

A few weeks later, the roaming dog returned and was once again covered in ticks and fleas. We didn't dare spray him again, so he eventually tramped off with his vermin passengers.

Frontline Plus for dogs is one of the best and most effective ways of dealing with fleas and ticks. The topical solution is nonprescription and available over the counter. Many veterinarians believe that Frontline Plus is the number one choice in flea and tick control. A monthly application can keep your pet free of parasites for thirty days. It kills adult fleas within twelve hours and ticks within forty-eight hours. Frontline also destroys the eggs and larvae associated with fleas and ticks.

Frontline Plus is highly effective against all major tick groups including the deer tick, brown dog tick, American dog tick, lone star tick and the western black legged tick. Ticks can be particularly dangerous because they carry diseases such as Lyme disease, Babesiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Ehrlichiosis.

Flea infestations can begin with just a few fleas. One flea can produce a thousand eggs in a matter of weeks. Flea bites can also lead to diseases such as Rickettsiosis, Flea Allergy Dermatitis, Tapeworm and Anemia.

Fleas and ticks can hide just about anywhere. It's always a good idea to make your home and lawn as inhospitable to them as possible. Keep your house clean, wash your pet's bedding, keep the grass short and don't leave piles of brush or garbage lying around.

The active compounds in Frontline Plus are Fipronil and S-Methoprene. Fipronil destroys the nervous systems of fleas and ticks resulting in rapid death. S-Methoprene is a growth regulating compound which destroys flea eggs and larvae. The medication is absorbed by sebaceous glands and slowly secreted into the skin providing continuous protection for thirty days with each application.

Frontline Plus comes in several dosage levels depending on the weight of your cat or dog. Frontline Plus is applied monthly. Avoid water or bathing for twenty-four hours after the application. Do not apply to pets under eight weeks old.

Frontline Plus is easily applied through a sealed applicator. Simply part the fur between the shoulder blades and empty the entire contents of the applicator onto the skin. The medication is readily absorbed and dries quickly. Frontline Plus will keep your pet free of fleas and ticks as long as you continue to use it.
